About ART Educational
Empowering people through cybersecurity education since 2022.

It was February of 2022, and I was in London in the rain with Hungarian accented English in my earbuds live from Budapest directing me to a specific view of the lions of Nelson's Column that matched a historical photo.
We were working on a piece of educational software that used agmented reality to match the environment around you with historical overlays and at Trafalgar Square it was almost working. I pulled out my laptop and scanned a QR code with my phone and the lion was swarmed with jubilant black and white figures celebrating the end of WWII. I scanned a second QR code and the black and white figures were replaced with a Kodachrome 60s flower child standing on the bollard in front of me in a short floral godet minidress, throwing a peace sign, and smiling at the camera. I wiped the rain off the laptop screen and slid it back into my courier bag. I was as jet lagged as I had ever been, upright only with the help of hourly corner shop samosa and energy drinks and had brought the wrong shoes: a tube strike had left the double-decker buses overwhelmed so I had been walking everywhere on blistered feet. The software was working here but not as well as we had hoped, and I was too exhausted at that point to care.

When I got back to The States, I scrapped the project entirely and enrolled in a cybersecurity bootcamp hoping to leave the educational world behind me forever.
Immersed in the trenches of the bootcamp though, I realized a lot of my peers were struggling. I started a Discord channel for my classmates, started organizing study groups, and in my free time I would walk people through the more difficult labs. One of the other students mentioned that she had a grant from the Colorado Department of Labor and Rehabilitation and suggested they might pay me to be her tutor.

The next thing I knew I was being set up with other students: I was getting paid to teach people Windows Server Group Policy Management, Linux and Cisco CLIs, networking, and ethical hacking.
I was picking up students who had had careers in cybersecurity but who had fallen out of the workforce and needed a little help building up confidence to tackle their certification exams. In the meantime, I quit my job bartending at a Denver area brewery and had fallen back into freelance event marketing. I was working for a nonprofit doing light web development for an upcoming conference when the executive director had her email spoofed. Cybercriminals weren't just going after big corporations, they were trying to scam small nonprofits and individuals, banking on the fact that they wouldn't even know where to start when it came to changing their security posture.

It was a Wake-Up Call: People needed help...
and I had the tools, knowledge, and ability to help them bridge the gap they had fallen into--not just with technical solutions, but with education and guidance that made cybersecurity accessible instead of intimidating. A year later I brought in Yusef Marra, first as my programming coach, and then as an integral member of the technical and educational team.

With decades of experience in IT and software development, Yusef Marra brought not only his technical expertise, but his ability to translate complex concepts into clear strategies that were easy to understand, easy to teach, and easy to action.
Together we set out to create a company that would strive to not just solve people's problems quietly in the background with opaque acronyms and initialisms but would provide cybersecurity training that would empower people and organizations with the confidence to take control of their own security posture. We envisioned a world where everyone, regardless of their technical background, could access the knowledge and resources they needed to protect themselves from the constantly evolving world of the net.
